The "double dip" chip & dip platter is born

My husband had asked me (or was it dared me) to create a platter with the option of not just 1 but 2 dip sections connected.  I'm already thinking of entertaining classics like salsa and guacamole or cream cheese and pepper jelly...a family favorite in our house!

Ah Raku...I've missed you!

It's been far too long since finishing my pieces in the unique outdoor firing method, Raku.  The surface design and texture are affected by the variances in organic materials, reduction and oxidation.  Fire takes over the pot and your senses, breathing into it a new life.  as much as I and many other potters love controlling clay, Raku is quite the opposite.  One never truly knows the outcome until you have sifted through the ashes and uncovered the beauty of the unknown.

Conference Time

I am excited to be attending my first NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts) Conference held in Providence, RI this year form March 25th - March 28th. .

It's time for this potter to mingle with,  learn from and be inspired by some of the best ceramic artists in the country!

There is going to be a huge K-12 student clay exhibition too; being very near and dear to my heart.  I have realized the teacher never truly leaves the building.

Some of my earlier work...more to come!

And So It Begins...

I am happy to introduce you to my pottery blog and the long awaited birth of "Thrown from the Heart Pottery"!  The transition from art educator to potter has been wonderfully tumultuous but I have been very lucky to have the support of my family and friends behind me as I choose this new path.

Becoming a studio member of The Potters Shop and School at Gorse Mill Studios in Needham, MA has proven to be a true godsend exceeding my expectations and needs as a potter. The community artists and resources are a constant flow of inspiration.
